Instructions for Ordering Textbooks & Course Packets - Argosy University/ Chicago Campus
Official "Central" Source of Information – The Course Syllabus
The course syllabus your "official" source of textbook and course packet information for on campus courses. We’ve asked faculty to provide their syllabus for posting on the Argosy University/Chicago Library website
www.auchicagolib.org and to include information as to materials required for their course. This would include notification as to their use of a course packet and a book listing of "required" books and "recommended" books with ISBN numbers and should include the edition number of the book they are asking you to purchase. Should you have a question on the edition you wish to purchase, please contact your instructor. Contact information for your instructor is posted directly on the syllabus. Because we are asking for syllabi to be posted several weeks in advance of classes, you may find that your instructor has a "preliminary" version of the syllabus to enable you to view their required course materials, but you should then remember to check back for the "Final" syllabus for other information such as assignment information, etc.Purchase Instructions - Course Packet
Course Packets are used for several, but not all, courses. Check the course syllabus to see if a course packet is mentioned. If one is mentioned, it would be "required." The only source available from which to purchase a course packet will be directly from the company used to do the copyright clearances/printing, etc. - Copyworks.
The Argosy University/Chicago Library website will have a Course Packet Order Form. The order form is also available at the copyworks website at www.copyworks.com. While Copyworks does not offer online ordering, you will be able to key in your information to the form posted on the Argosy University /Chicago Library site or the copyworks website and then choose how to submit your order:
Email or Fax: complete the form, including your charge card information, then send via email with the form as an attachment to: echeaney@copyworks.com, OR print out a hard copy of the form and fax it in to 515-292-5011.
Via U.S. Mail: complete the form, provide charge card, check or money order and send to: Copyworks, 105 Welch Ave., Ames, IA 50014. You will be able to pay for your course packet with charge card, check or money order. If your syllabus indicates use of a course packet but you do not see it posted on the library website, please feel free to call Copyworks at 515-292-3630.
Purchase Instructions - Textbooks
MBS continues to host our campus book ordering, but, as mentioned above, for all on- campus courses, the "official" listing of course materials, including textbooks, is your course syllabus. Please visit the library website and check the syllabus for your listing. You may then purchase your books from MBS Direct, our online bookstore source at www.mbsdirect.net, or you may decide to purchase from other vendors such as www.barnesandnoble.com,
www.varsitybooks.com www.amazon.com,Please note: Your course syllabus, NOT MBS Books, is the place to check for you lists of books.
To use the MBS website:
Go to
If you are a matriculated student, go to
What if MBS does not list my book?
The www.mbsdirect.net
course listings will be updated weekly on
Mondays. They strive to get books in stock and posted on their website in as
timely a manner as possible. Should you not find your course listed when you
first visit the site, you can continue to check the MBS website each week
thereafter to see if it appears OR you may choose to visit another
book ordering vendor online (see list above for a few suggestions) to order
from another source. MBS no longer posts ISBN numbers, so you will have to
secure these numbers off of the course syllabus to enable your purchase from
another vendor.
MBS - Special note about "back orders": If MBS has "back order" noted on a particular item, you may wish to go ahead and place the order anyway as they fill the backorders within 24-48 hours of the stock arriving at their warehouse.
Online Courses - Textbook Ordering – Please Take Note
Online course syllabi are NOT mailed or emailed in advance of course access dates. Once you are able to access your online course, you will find your syllabus embedded in the online materials. For online courses, MBS will still be the official source of textbook information.
The MBS Website lists online courses under the campus that is hosting the course. Choose appropriate campus, i.e. Argosy University/Chicago or Argosy University/Chicago Northwest. Some online courses are hosted "nationally" and are under the "Argosy Online" campus listing.
