Library Policies

General:

Use of cell phones is not permitted in the library. Drinks are permitted, provided they are in a closed container.

Books:

Books may be checked out for a period of three weeks and may be renewed twice, either in person, by phone, or online. Items on hold for another user may not be renewed. Books needed for reserve, or books that are out for more than 21 days and are requested by another patron, are subject to immediate recall. Books may be returned at the circulation desk during library hours or in the drop box, located outside library entrance, when the library is closed. A .15’ a day fee is charged for overdue books.

Reference books, inlcuduing encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories and other materials, and are for in-library use only. Please note that the majority of reference materials are available in the online library.

To find out if the library owns a particular book, please use the Argosy University Online Catalog.

Damaged/ Lost Books:

The replacement fee of any lost or damaged book, periodical, or media item is $100 plus a processing fee of $10, for a total cost of $110. If the estimated estimated replacement cost of a lost or damaged item is over $100.00, then the charge will be the actual replacement cost of the item plus a $10 processing fee. All exceptions to this policy must be approved by the librarian. The replacement fee for a lost book is waived only upon return of the original library materials. Alternative copies may be acceptable only with prior approval by the librarian. It is the responsibility of the patron to check for and report damaged materials before taking them out of the library.

Reserve Materials:

Some required texts and articles for courses are available on reserve at the circulation desk. Reserve materials can be checked out for two hours at a time with a valid student I.D. Reserve materials returned after the 2 hour loan period are subject to $2.00 per hour fine.

DVD's & Videotapes:

DVD's and videotapes can be checked out for three days, unless the item is needed for a class. There is a $5.00 per day charge for overdue videos. To browse the library's video tape collection, use the library online catalog, or inquire at the circulation desk.

Journals:

The library subscribes to a number print journals related to business, education and psychology. To search the library collection of journals, browse the "A to Z list of Online Journals" available in the online library via the student portal. Journals cannot be taken out of the library, or checked out overnight.

Psychological Testing Materials:

Psychological tests may be checked out for three days at a time. Use the online testing materials list to determine whether the library owns a particular item. Overdue fees are $5.00 a day. WAIS and WISC kits may be checked out on a limited basis (depending on availability) to students not enrolled in an assessment course.

CRP's, Dissertations and Master's Theses:

CRP's (Clinical Research Projects), Dissertations and Theses may be checked out for three weeks, with two renewals. Items out for more than 21 days and are requested by another patron are subject to immediate recall. To search for CRP's dissertations and theses using the Argosy University Library Online Catalog. Overdue fines are $.15 a day.

Computers:

Computers are available in the Academic Learning Center, and in rooms 1318 and 1319. 2 computers with Rorscan are avaialble in the library in group study rooms A & B. Software programs installed in the computer labs include Microsoft Word Office and SPSS.

Audiovisual Equipment:

The following equipment can be checked out from the library:

Camcorder ……………………………………..24 hours (DVD)

Tape Recorder…………………………………24 hours (mini-cassette + standard cassette)

In order to insure availability, organize staffing, and prevent last minute rush requests, please reserve equipment in advance by calling 312-777-7653 or via e-mail at auchilibrary@argosy.edu . When making a reservation, please provide all necessary information, including

1. Your full name

2. Contact information (phone or e-mail)

3. Date and time equipment is needed

4. Type of equipment needed. Reservation requests that do not include all the required information will delay processing of your request.

Group Study Rooms:

The library has four group study rooms, providing a unique space for group study for classroom or research related activities. All rooms can accommodate up to six people. Two group study rooms (A & B) are equipped with technology to practice presentations, view media,  and to facilitate collaborative work.

Policies:

Photocopy Machines:

A copy machine is available for student use outside the library entrance. Copy cards may be purchased at the ciruclation desk and recharged through the copy card dispensing machine located near library doors. Copies are $.10 per exposure. The circulation desk may not be able to make change, so please come prepared. There is an additional copier located in Room 1319.

Alumni Borrowing Privileges:

Generally, alumni have access to library resources and must adhere to the same policies as current students with the following exceptions:

1. Alumni do not have access to the online library.

2. Alumni may not check out testing materials.

3. Alumni must register with the library with a current address, phone, e-mail and driver’s license # before checking out any materials or using interlibrary loan services.

4. Alumni may request up to ten interlibrary loan items per year: Fees are as follows: -- Books (free) -- Articles $1.00 -- Faxed requests: $5.00 per item -- Mailed items: $5.00 shipping charge per book/ 1.00 per article (in addition to 1.00 fee for article) All outstanding fines and fees must be paid in order to maintain library borrowing privileges.

Syllabi for the current semester and previous terms can be located on the library’s website under “Syllabi”; a user name and password are required. Please call the library to inquire. MA/ PsyD Comprehensive exams from the past three years are available to students and can be requested at the circulation desk.
